5. Pinkas Masters (1.d4 b5) = přátelský tematický turnaj s povinnými tahy 1.d4 b5 (polská obrana).

Historie tohoto zahájení, resp. tahu 1...b5 (v reakci na 1.d4) sahá až do období těsně před 1. světovou válkou. Do praxe ho zavedl tehdejší polský mistr a známý teoretik Alexander Wagner (1868–⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠1942). Stalo se tak v roce 1913, kdy se Alexander Wagner utkal v rámci 10. Mistrovství Švýcarska v korespondenčním šachu s Rudolfem Kühnem, klubovým šampionem ze Saské Kamenice (Chemnitz), a na soupeřův úvodní tah 1.d4 odpověděl právě 1...b5. O rok později pak Alexander Wagner zveřejnil své rozsáhlé rozbory tohoto pokračování v šachovém periodiku "Deutsches Wochenschach und Berliner Schachzeitung" (30. ročník/svazek, Postupim 1914).
