Thursday, June 24, 2021: Aleš Malnar died
Aleš Malnar, Slovenian international master passed away.
Aleš Malnar, Slovenian international master died after a serious illness. He was 56 years old.
This is a huge loss for Slovenian correspondence chess, as Aleš was a permanent member of the best Slovenian national teams in recent years. He was well known by his fighting spirit and reliability. At the recently finished Slav Cup VI competition, he played on the second board and together with the Slovenian team won first place. In the Semi-finals of the 22nd Correspondence Olympics, he made a significant contribution to Slovenia's placement in the finals. In 2020 he took first place in German international tournament and won his first norm for the title of senior international master. In his rich 17-year career, he was also a Slovenian champion in 2008.
He played correspondence chess with great joy, dedication and responsibility until the last moments, even when he already knew that his life was coming to an end. Aleš, we will miss you. Rest in peace.
